THE
OPERATION WAS SUCCESSFUL BUT THE PATIENT DIED
was first shown in
London's Irish Cultural Centre in March 2009. Maeve Clancy and Chris Haughton
graduated in Visual Communications from NCAD in 2001. Their combined professional
practices incorporate extensive use of visual arts technologies. Chris
is a prolific illustrator whose clients include The Guardian, Time Magazine,
The Independent and The South China Morning Post. In 2008, he was awarded
bronze prize by the Association of Illustration for best advertising illustration.
Maeve is a film-maker, painter, animator and currently writes and draws
'Flatmates', a weekly webcomic. She has been shortlisted for this year's
Arts Council Location One scholarship.
In their working lives, all their ideas start out as drawings on paper and are subsequently re-worked and developed in order to achieve specific results. For this exhibition, they are showing how their personal and professional sides play off and influence each other. Maeve´s
cut-out drawings are expanding on a series she has been working on over
the last few years. Her subjects are street scenes and interior views
which she constructs into Chris has travelled and worked throughout Asia and is very influenced by Japanese prints and Indian painting. He has digitally recombined his drawings and other collaged elements from his sketchbooks to create surreal imagery and landscapes. Exhibition continues until Sunday May 24th OPENING
