‘…in
search of self-forgotten histories…’ | Tracy
Sweeney
"...in
Search of Self-Forgotten Histories... is an exhibition of photographs
capturing people that are important to me in spaces we frequented
throughout our lives. Each depicts the person’s identity obscurely,
by allowing them to be overshadowed by the personal importance &
weight of the place they wander in. Whilst the imagery has a nostalgic
tone, their modernity in appearance allow the picture to appreciated
by all.
I
want the viewer of these photographs to be aware, that if an urban
or rural landscape is of importance to them, they too become a part
of the construction or destruction of that same place. Our identity
is shaped by the space in which we wander, but as individuals we
shape our own histories." Tracy
Sweeney.
Tracy
Sweeney graduated with a first class honours degree in
Printmaking from the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology in 2005.
Her recent solo shows include ‘AP/Art’ in the Galway
Arts Centre, February 2006 & ‘Thus Spoke the Silent Spaces’
in the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar, October 2006. Sweeney’s
main studio practice combines images of spaces & surfaces throughout
the world, captured photographically & over-printed using traditional
printmaking techniques. Her work captures the dynamic tension between
modern & traditional methods of composing an image.
Dates
of exhibition: 22nd - 25th May & 29th - 31st May. Other
times by appointment, tel: 087 1275180.
