An
exhibition of paintings by Wicklow-based artist Vauney Strahan.
The exhibition features new work in which Strahan continues to
explore the relationship between mind and matter / man and the
universe. These paintings continue to investigate the dialogue
between the conscious and the unconscious. While expanding on
these themes, the focus of this new body of work places emphasis
on the landscape in which these relationships are played-out.
There is emphasis on the meeting of Man and nature, the built
environment and our role in the shaping of our planet. “In
my work I see translucent, fluid brush-work as the activity of
the senses, and of free-flowing thought. Against this is the controlled
execution of hard-edged forms – the matter of the world
surrounding us”.
Since
graduating from City and Guilds of London Art School in 2006,
Strahan has been selected to exhibit in a number of highly competitive
shows around Ireland including; The RHA Annual Exhibition, (Dublin);
The Boyle Arts Festival, (Roscommon); The Mermaid Greenstar Open,
(Bray) and the DLR Open Exhibition, (Dunlaoghaire). Other selected
group and solo shows include; The Stone Gallery, (Dublin); The
Lemon Street Gallery, (Dublin) and The Talbot Gallery, (Dublin).
Strahan has work in many private collections around England and
Ireland. In 2007 she was awarded an Arts Bursary. This is her
third solo show.
