Fermanagh Artist Helen McNulty showcases a new series of paintings in her first solo show in Ireland at the Crow Gallery in October.

Painting from an early age under the tutelage of her Uncle Edward McNulty,a traditional Artist from Fermanagh, Helen moved to Leicester's DeMontfort University to study Performance Art and Arts Management. While there, she combined her Painting and Sculpture practice in Live Performance and Installations. She was a founding member of the collective ... seen ... , with choreographer Mia Malone and set up a thriving Live Art/Performance
Art festival of the same name in 2001 [running to 2006] which showcased her own work in tandem with artists from U.K., Ireland and Europe including Kid Carpet, Trash Fashion and Michael Pinchbeck.

Cloudburst began about 2 years ago when Helen moved to Dublin. A stranger in a new city, she was drawn to travelling the city in buses to familiarise herself with this new place. Her view of Dublin from the outset was a place soaked in rain, puddles, umbrellas, reflections and refracted light through the tiny droplets of rain on the panoramic top deck windows of
Dublin buses. For the most part she uses the medium of oil and wax, as like the rain drenched days of that summer, oils are not quick to dry, they are malleable and allow for change. They also take the light and absorb it, much
like the rain.

Helen has exhibited her work in her native Fermanagh from the age of 17 and has had a series of Art Installation/Performance exhibitions throughout England as well as Two solo shows in Leicester and Nottingham. She has also taken part in Group exhibitions at the United Arts Club, Dublin and curated a show at her Glasnevin home. She has participated in the Flat Lake festival since its inception and recently sold paintings to Film Director Kevin Allen. When not in her studio painting, she works for Improvised Music Company as well as various cultural projects in the city. She is currently writing and devising a performance piece with the working title FOUR WOMEN.
